Our Mission: to offer community for connection, renewal, and transformation
Spiritual Transformation ~ Igniting the Spirit of Life
Through learning, loving, working, and nurturing our creative energies together, we strive to transform ourselves, our communities and the world in which we live.
Lifelong Learning ~ Seeking the truth in love
We teach and learn from each other, from the youngest to the oldest among us. We create opportunities to actively encourage, support and nourish each other as each of us follows our personal path to understanding.
Social Justice ~ Living our values
We build partnerships and serve the community by confronting injustice, advocating for the inherent worth and dignity of all beings, giving a voice to the voiceless, and honoring the interconnectedness of all life.
Caring Community ~ Loving one another
We support each other in times of need, celebrate with each other in times of joy, and practice radical hospitality, welcoming everyone with open hearts and open minds.
Creative Expression ~ Illuminating the sacred
We firmly believe in the power of music, art and creative performance to strengthen our community, to nourish our souls, and to help people see the world a bit differently.
Our ordained ministers lead Sunday services brimming with beautiful live music. We offer two worship services at 9:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.*
Programming for children and youth is offered during each service. Nursery care for infants and toddlers is available beginning 15 minutes before the service begins.
Throughout the week, we provide a variety of spiritual experiences with common interest groups, retreats, education opportunities that allow us to deepen our spiritual understanding.
*From late May through late August, our summer schedule is one Sunday service at 10:00 a.m.
Listen to Explorations
We record the Explorations (sermons) shared each Sunday. Use the player below to listen to a recent recording or find the full archive at FirstUniversalist.Podbean.com.
We are living our values of environmental responsibility.
We were accredited as a Green Sanctuary by the Unitarian Universalist Associate in 2011. As of March, 2018, about 254 other Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations shared this status, and many more are in process. Becoming a Green Sanctuary is a process that involves congregation-wide study, reflection, and action around environmental challenges. Learn more about our work for environmental sustainability by contacting our Green First Task Force.
Learning and growing together.
We offer faith formation and religious education through classroom experiences, music, drama, community outreach, and youth activities that nurture and support spiritual development. We offer community, social action, sexuality education, parenting support, family learning in a loving environment.
We provide programming during each Sunday service and at youth retreats and overnights. Each part of our program is designed to broaden and deepen your child’s faith formation. We partner with families in the work of raising young people who are ready and equipped to live well. We do this through the programming offered and the community built in the process of learning and growing together.
Our staff are glad to talk with you to answer questions, and we hope that you will attend a service soon.
Whatever our life stage, we learn from one another and share our joys and sorrows in community.
We offer affinity groups for specific life stages such as our Young Adult Ministry and our Senior Support Group. Many of our programs for adults are intergenerational, like our Adult Learning opportunities, our choral program, and our social groups.
Igniting the sacred
We have a dynamic chorale music program at First Universalist! Come any Sunday to enjoy the music offered during our services. Consider joining one of our accomplished choirs for children or adults!
Our work for justice is based on the principles of equality and solidarity.
How we live matters; our living can make a positive difference in the world. We honor the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and honor all life. We have a long tradition of involvement in work for social change.
The Social Justice Council of First Universalist leads our efforts, and provides vision, direction, and organizational support for our growing involvement in social justice activities.
Let us know a little about you and which parts of church life interest you.
