Our Mission: to offer community for connection, renewal, and transformation
We are theists, atheists, agnostics, and spiritual – Instead of a central creed, our religion centers around shared principles, moral values, such as “the inherent worth and dignity of each person.
We are Welcoming – First Universalist has been a Welcoming Congregation (especially for the GLBTQ community) since 1996.
We are Green – Our building is “net carbon positive” – thanks to our combined solar and geothermal energy system, we return more energy than we use. We were accredited as a Green Sanctuary congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association in 2011.
We worship together – Our ordained ministers lead Sunday services brimming with beautiful live music. And, we provide a variety of spiritual experiences with common interest groups, retreats, education opportunities that allow us to deepen our spiritual understanding.
We work together for justice and equity – Based on our long history of commitment, today we have social justice groups active in the areas of poverty, environment, peace, childhood education and equality.
We play together – We play, hike, dance, talk, sing, act, camp, and share meals together. For many of us, the community we have found here is a chosen family.
We support each other – With friendships and our ministry to each other we support one another through life’s transitions.
We offer two worship services at 9:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and programming for children and youth is offered during the services. Nursery care for infants and toddlers is available beginning 15 minutes before each service begins.
Our worship services weave together words and music provided by our ministerial team and our music program.
We are living our values of environmental responsibility.
We were accredited as a Green Sanctuary by the Unitarian Universalist Associate in 2011. As of March, 2018, about 254 other Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations shared this status, and many more are in process. Becoming a Green Sanctuary is a process that involves congregation-wide study, reflection, and action around environmental challenges. Learning and growing together.
We offer faith formation and religious education through classroom experiences, music, drama, community outreach, and youth activities that nurture and support spiritual development. We offer community, social action, sexuality education, parenting support, family learning in a loving environment.
We provide programming during each Sunday service and at youth retreats and overnights. Each part of our program is designed to broaden and deepen your child’s faith formation. We partner with families in the work of raising young people who are ready and equipped to live well. We do this through the programming offered and the community built in the process of learning and growing together.
Our staff are glad to talk with you to answer questions, and we hope that you will attend a service soon.
Whatever our life stage, we learn from one another and share our joys and sorrows in community.
We offer affinity groups for specific life stages such as our Young Adult Ministry and our Senior Support Group. Many of our programs for adults are intergenerational, like our Adult Learning opportunities, our choral program, and our social groups.
Igniting the sacred
We have a dynamic chorale music program at First Universalist! Come any Sunday to enjoy the music offered during our services. Consider joining one of our accomplished choirs for children or adults!
Our work for justice is based on the principles of equality and solidarity.
How we live matters; our living can make a positive difference in the world. We honor the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and honor all life. We have a long tradition of involvement in work for social change.
The Social Justice Council of First Universalist leads our efforts, and provides vision, direction, and organizational support for our growing involvement in social justice activities.
Let us know a little about you and which parts of church life interest you.
