For our May selection, we picked Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man’s Fight for Justice by Bill Browder. In 2009, a lawyer named Sergei Magnitsky was beaten to death in a Russian prison. Browder, an American financier, bears witness to the events surrounding Magnitsky’s death and goes on a crusade for justice that ultimately changes the course of US-Russian relations.  The Guardian calls the book “gripping” and notes that “Browder has succeeded in annoying Putin in a way that few have.”

The book club meets monthly and discusses a different fiction or non-fiction title at each meeting, always connected to social justice matters. Newcomers are welcome. For more information, contact Phil Tatro at zharris70@gmail.com or 860-205-4243.
