Membership Matters

On the individual level, membership in First Universalist calls us to grow. It encourages us toward ongoing growth that lasts a lifetime and helps us become the best human being we can be.

On the community level, membership calls us to join in covenant with other members of First Universalist and other Unitarian Universalists everywhere.  A covenant is a sacred promise, a mutual agreement about how we will be together in our congregations and how we will be in the world.

When we join as members, we enter a covenant of trust that we will care for and help one another, that we will work together towards our shared mission and vision. This truly matters, and we are so glad you’re here to learn more about membership at First Universalist.

What is Article II?

Article II is the section of the Unitarian Universalist Association bylaws that has the language at the heart of our faith for many of us as UUs.  It includes the seven principles and the six sources of the faith.  It also contains the purposes of the UUA as an organization, a statement of inclusion, and a section on freedom of belief.

Summary of Key Themes and Points Made During First Universalist of Denver Article II Listening sessions and other Inputs Received by Delegates

Our delegates to the upcoming UUA General Assembly in Pittsburgh (June 21-25) have drafted a summary of the Congregational listening sessions and other inputs they have received regarding the proposed revisions to Article II of the UUA bylaws. They are sharing it via the link below for you to review and to provide any additional inputs to jehrmann@merid.org. While each delegate is free to vote their conscience during the GA, they will be taking the views of the Congregation into account as they make those decisions.

Proposed Changes to Article II

Article II of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Bylaws, Principles and Purposes, is the foundation for all of the work of our UUA and its member congregations and covenanted communities. In June 2023, delegates from UU congregations will vote whether to advance the proposal for a year of study and discernment before a final vote that would be held in June 2024.
