Thanksgiving Day 2016 marks the 140th anniversary of Denver’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, which will be celebrated this year at Central Christian Church. Central Christian Church organized Denver’s first “Community Thanksgiving Service” in 1876. In the early years, it was shared largely between Christian and Jewish congregations, though the record shows that participants from the Buddhist Temple became involved in the early 1900’s. Over the years, the service added new participants so that today it represents more than a dozen different faith communities. The service rotates to various locations and draws over 700 people. The Interfaith service lasts about an hour and will be followed by a cookies and punch reception.
Rev. Jeannie Shero will participate in the service, along with Rev. Mike Morran of First Unitarian Society and leaders from the following:
Central Christian Church
Christ the King Catholic Church
Tri-State Buddhist Temple
University Park United Methodist
The Multicultural Mosaic Foundation
Metropolitan Community Church of the Rockies
Shorter Community African Methodist Episcopal
We hope you will attend.
