For our April selection, we picked Waking Lions by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen. It tells the story of the events that unfold after a wealthy Israeli neurosurgeon kills an African migrant in a hit and run. It is the club‘s first work of fiction in translation, as well as the winner of the Jewish Quarterly Wingate Prize. The New York Times Book Review described it as “a commentary on privilege and otherness, challenging readers to confront their own blind spots and preconceptions.” The book club meets monthly and discusses a different fiction or non-fiction title at each meeting, always connected to social justice matters. Newcomers are welcome. For more information, contact Phil Tatro at zharris70@gmail.com or 860-205-4243.
