Please join us for our new Racial Justice Film Series on the second Monday of each month with an exception for the first meeting. We open the series with a special meeting time on Sunday, January 15 at 11:30 a.m. with a showing of The Doctrine of Discovery.
This powerful documentary explains the history of The Doctrine of Discovery from its original proclamation in the 15th Century by Pope Gregory to its impact in the present. This doctrine proclaims that white Christians have the right and obligation to claim newly discovered land in Africa and the new world in the name of Christianity despite this land being occupied by indigenous peoples. How does the doctrine continue to shape our world and our lives? Discussion will follow.
After the first meeting, the Racial Justice Film Series meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at First Plymouth Church. Future films include: Policing the Police with Jelani Cobb and 13th by Ava DuVernay.
