Inspired by the National Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath Weekend, and to commemorate the five year anniversary of the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and to honor all victims of gun violence in our nation, there will be a candlelight vigil on December 13. Host congregations for this are First Plymouth Congregational Church and First Universalist Church of Denver. Similar vigils and other events will be held throughout the country as part of the National Vigil for Gun Violence Victims and National Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath Weekend, December 15-17. Sponsoring organizations include the Newtown Foundation and Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence.
The vigil will be from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. on the SW and NE corners of Colorado and Hampden. We will gather at First Plymouth at 4:15 p.m. for a welcome and invocations, in which Reverend Jeannie Shero will be involved. Please bring your own light sources. We need a great turnout to continue to draw attention to and action on this plague in our country. Since Sandy Hook, more than 500,000 Americans have been killed or wounded by firearms. Please come. There will be a firepit and hot chocolate.
On December 5, we will gather at 6 p.m. at First Plymouth for sign painting and socializing.
